New Forest, Hampshire
Professional Photographer in the New Forest
Ancient woodland, open heathland, wild ponies, and the coast -- the New Forest is an outdoor photography paradise, and I know every corner of it.
Photography in a National Park Setting
The New Forest is unlike anywhere else in southern England. Over 200 square miles of ancient woodland, open heathland, coastal marshes, and picturesque villages create a landscape that changes character with every season and every shift in light. Free-roaming ponies, donkeys, and cattle add a quality that no other location in Hampshire can match. With more than fifteen years behind the camera and a Southampton base since 2022, I continue to find new inspiration in the park's changing light and landscapes.
I photograph regularly across the New Forest, from the woodland paths around Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst to the heathland near Burley and the coastal stretches at Lymington and Keyhaven. I understand how the forest light behaves -- how it filters through the oak canopy in summer, how misty mornings transform the open heath into something ethereal, how the autumn colour sweeps through the Ornamental Drive. This is knowledge that comes only from sustained, committed work in a landscape.
Whether you are planning a destination wedding at one of the Forest's country house hotels, a family adventure amongst the trees, or a portrait session that uses the natural environment as its backdrop, the New Forest provides settings of extraordinary beauty. My role is to combine that setting with genuine human connection, creating photographs that honour both the landscape and the people within it.
Photography Services in the New Forest
I offer a full range of professional photography services across the New Forest, including Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst, Burley, Beaulieu, Lymington, and all surrounding areas.
Wedding Photography
The New Forest is one of the South's most sought-after wedding destinations. Rhinefield House offers ornate Victorian grandeur surrounded by ancient redwoods. Carey's Manor in Brockenhurst combines country house elegance with forest proximity. Beaulieu and its motor museum provide a uniquely English estate setting. Elmers Court, Balmer Lawn, and The Montagu Arms each bring their own character. I have photographed at these venues many times and understand how to use their grounds, their light, and their atmosphere to create a complete visual record of your day.
Family Photography
A family session in the New Forest is an adventure. Children can explore fallen trees, paddle in streams, and watch ponies grazing beside the path. The forest provides an endless variety of backdrops within a short walk -- dappled woodland, sunlit clearings, open heath, and ancient trees with character. Sessions are relaxed and activity-led, producing photographs that capture your family in a landscape they will remember for years.
Commercial Photography
The New Forest's hospitality and tourism sector relies on compelling visual content. I work with hotels, restaurants, activity providers, and local businesses to create photography that captures the unique appeal of operating within a national park. From interior shots of country house hotels to lifestyle imagery for outdoor recreation brands, I understand how to communicate the New Forest experience through professional photography.
Personal Branding & Portraits
The New Forest provides a distinctive setting for personal branding and portrait photography. For professionals whose work connects to the outdoors, wellbeing, nature, or the rural economy, a portrait session in the forest communicates your values and environment in a way that a studio session never could. I create authentic portrait collections that place you within the landscape you call home.
Event Photography
The New Forest hosts events throughout the year -- from the New Forest Show and point-to-point racing to food festivals, craft fairs, and charity walks. I document events of all scales, capturing the atmosphere and the detail that organisers and participants want to see.
Newborn Photography
For new parents in the New Forest, I offer in-home newborn sessions that document the quiet beauty of the earliest days. These sessions take place in your own home within the first fourteen days, using natural light and gentle posing to create soft, timeless images that you will treasure.
The New Forest's Best Photography Locations
After years of photographing across the New Forest, I have built an extensive knowledge of locations suited to every type of session. The Tall Trees Walk near Rhinefield offers towering redwoods and Douglas firs that create cathedral-like scale. Bolderwood has ancient oaks and a deer sanctuary where wild fallow deer graze within sight. Hatchet Pond provides a mirror-calm lake surrounded by heathland. The Ornamental Drive in autumn is one of Hampshire's most spectacular landscapes.
For couples, the forest villages of Brockenhurst and Burley offer charm and character. For families, Blackwater Arboretum and the streams around Ober Water provide natural play settings. For coastal variety, the salt marshes at Keyhaven and the harbour at Lymington bring a completely different atmosphere. I recommend locations based on the season, the light, and the feeling you want your photographs to convey.
"The forest was magical on the day of our wedding. The photographs captured that magic perfectly -- the light through the trees, the quiet moments, the joy on everyone's faces."

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any permits for photography in the New Forest?
For personal portrait and family sessions, no permits are typically required in publicly accessible areas. For commercial photography or larger productions, the Forestry England may require a permit. I handle all logistics and can advise on requirements for your specific session.
What happens if it rains during our New Forest session?
The forest is beautiful in all weather, and light rain can add atmosphere. However, for comfort, I always offer a free reschedule if conditions are genuinely poor. The forest canopy also provides natural shelter during light showers, and some of my most atmospheric work has been created on overcast or misty days.
How far do you travel into the New Forest?
I cover the entire New Forest national park, from Fordingbridge in the north to Lymington in the south, and from Ringwood in the west to Totton and the eastern boundary. Travel within 30 minutes of Southampton is included; any fee beyond that area is confirmed before booking.
Can we include the wild ponies in our photographs?
The New Forest ponies are one of the park's most iconic features, and they do sometimes appear in photographs. I know the areas where ponies tend to gather, though they are wild animals and their presence cannot be guaranteed. I always maintain a respectful distance and never approach or feed them during sessions.
What is the best season for New Forest photography?
Every season has its own appeal. Spring brings bluebells and fresh green canopy. Summer offers long golden evenings and heathland in bloom. Autumn transforms the Ornamental Drive into a corridor of copper and gold. Winter provides stark beauty, misty mornings, and dramatic skies. I can recommend the best timing for the look and atmosphere you want.
